HSG258 Guidance Overview

HSG258 provides lots if useful information on what you should expect as a customer from a good LEV equipment supplier, designer and installation company. We have provided this summary below for our customers easy access:

LEV installers should:


  • Know how to install LEV systems safely 
  • Know the basic principles of LEV hood design and proper application.
  • Know how to install according to the specified design.
  • Know how to ensure that the new LEV system delivers the intended performance.
  • Knows how to liaise effectively with the system designer and the client. 


LEV Commissioners should:


  • Know their role and legal responsibilities - Chapter 8 HSG258 
  • Know how to liaise and communicate with the employer and employees.
  • Know how to check that the LEV system is working to design specification.
  • Know how to specify and describe the performance of the LEV system. 
  • Knows how to check that exposure is effectively controlled.
  • Knows what to include in the LEV commissioning report as an adequate benchmark against which to compare future performance -Subsequent LEV Testing (TExT) for the working life of the equipment.
